OCAWL-SPcA foster animals
with special needs

These kitties are up for adoption, but each has a medical condition that requires regular monitoring and medication. They should not be overlooked because they may need extra care. All three are wonderful, loving cats that deserve their own home and family.

Buddy

Buddy suffers from asthma. His attacks are triggered by different factors. Stress, environment and seasonal changes seem to be the leading causes. Asthma in cats is exactly the same as with humans. When he has an attack, he begins coughing and wheezing and must be put on steroids and a bronchodiltor to regulate his breathing. Despite his condition, Buddy is a happy-go-lucky guy. He has a booming voice and uses it often.

Gipper     ADOPTED!

Gipper suffers from a condition called lymphocytic plasmacytic stomatitis. This disease is caused by an atypical immune response by lymphocytes and plasma cells. Lymphocytes and plasma cells are essential to the immune system, but when they accumulate in a spot where they are not supposed to be, they can send out signals to the body that release chemicals that cause inflammation and pain. He had to have some teeth extracted and his gums cleaned. He was placed on a long course of antibiotics and is doing much better now. He will need to be on pulse therapy, which is a course of 7 days of antibiotics once a month every month and will need to have his teeth and gums cleaned under anesthetic at least once a year. Gipper is a trooper as he continues to be a very mellow and easy going kitty.
